Anyone has some suggestions how to run perception in 4.0?
Point being when I dm and design challenges, traps, ect, passive perception seems to be a major problem when you have people who have really high perception (like 20 or above at level 1, powergamers or minmaxers...). I just seems pointless to have traps in a room if they can see them without even rolling for them. Effectively they walk in and notice the damn fly on the wall.

So I was thinking about have passive perception give details about the environment, some useful others not to avoid metagaming, or just getting rid of passive all together. I was just wondering what you guys may think about this.

I like passive perception when it benefits me. Otherwise it's shit

So? You are the DM. Make the traps harder if you don't want them to be able to find them or instead tell them you think something is "off" about the room instead of just blatantly showing them and make them us Perception actively if they want to find the trap.
